History
“Study the past if you would define the future.” ― Confucius –Chinese Philosopher
The aim of our history curriculum is to stimulate the children’s curiosity and understanding about the past. We teach children a sense of chronology, and through this they develop a sense of identity and learn to value their own and other people’s cultures in modern multicultural Britain.
Our history curriculum encourages our pupils to:
- be detectives and investigate past events
- ask perceptive questions
- develop the skills of enquiry, analysis, interpretation and problem-solving
- weigh up evidence
- sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement
- It enables pupils to understand cause and consequence, similarity and difference, continuity and change, significance, evidence and empathy
- Understand that our local area has been ‘touched’ by many periods of history from Iron Age to World War II and beyond.
