History

The aim of our history curriculum is to stimulate the children’s curiosity and understanding about the past. We teach children a sense of chronology, and through this they develop a sense of identity and learn to value their own and other people’s cultures in modern multicultural Britain.

Our history curriculum encourages our pupils to:

be detectives and investigate past events
ask perceptive questions
develop the skills of enquiry, analysis, interpretation and problem-solving
weigh up evidence
sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement
It enables pupils to understand cause and consequence, similarity and difference, continuity and change, significance, evidence and empathy
Understand that our local area has been ‘touched’ by many periods of history from Iron Age to World War II and beyond.
