Our School
Swallow Dell Primary School and Nursery is a two form entry school with an attached nursery. The main school has capacity for 60 children in each year group from Reception through to Year 6 and offers wraparound care from 7:30am until 6:00pm.
There is a school based nursery which has provision for 60 pre-school age children (split between 30 in the morning and 30 in the afternoon). The nursery accepts applications for 15 and 30 hours of provision.
The school has officially existed in its current form as Swallow Dell since January 2002 following the amalgamation of two schools – Thumbswood Infant School and Blackthorn Junior School. This amalgamation has meant there is now one school spread across two buildings. The infant children (Nursery, Reception and Years 1 and 2) are based in The Lowerfield building and the junior children (Year 3 -6) in the Sweet Briar building.
There are many benefits to the school being spread across two buildings. The greatest of these benefits is space and resources. Swallow Dell has some of the largest school grounds of any primary school and is fortunate to have two school halls; a music room; two school libraries; two woodland areas; a bio dome; an enormous school field; three different playgrounds; individual outdoor play areas for Nursery, Reception and Year 1; an additional Year 6 learning space; and many intervention and break out spaces around the site.
