Reception Little City UK Workshop
Our Reception children had a fantastic visit from Little City UK, which tied into our “People Who Help Us” topic. The children had the chance to explore various resources and learn about different roles in our community. It was wonderful to see them so engaged and enjoying the experience!
Year 3 Young Voices Performance, O2 Arena
Year 3 had an exciting trip to the O2 Arena to take part in the Young Voices choir. Young Voices is the largest children’s choir in the world and listening to all the children singing together was an amazing experience. During the afternoon, the children took part in a full rehearsal before performing to parents and carers in the evening. Although it was very late by the time we got back, the children managed the event superbly and were a credit to Swallow Dell. Well done Year 3!
EYFS and KS1 Beauty and The Beast, Chaplin’s Mini Pantomime
The EYFS and Key Stage 1 children had a great time at the pantomime….oh yes they did! There was lots of cheering, laughter and dancing.
KS2 Trip- Sleeping Beauty Pantomime, Campus West
The cast put on an incredible show full of classic pop songs which the children sung along to. KS2 looked on in amazement, as the dancers flipped across the stage. As always, the children were in anticipation for their favourite part of the show, the 12 days of Christmas. Where on the 12 day the cast bring out the water guns! It really was a fantastic show!
Year 1 History of Toys Day!
A huge thank to History Off The Page for visiting our Year 1 classes this week. The children were able to explore a wide range of toys from the past. It was an excellent addition to the current curriculum taught in Year 1 this term and the children really enjoyed the experience!
EYFS Animal Workshop
Reception and Nursery pupils had a visit from ‘Furry and Scaly Friends’!
This linked to Reception’s ‘Understanding The World’ focus on animals and was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about and handle a range of animals which they may not be familiar with.
Year 2 Great Fire of London Day
Year 2 went back in time to 1666 to find out what life was like when the Great Fire of London took place. They had lots of fun learning about different trades and investigating artefacts and maps to find out more about the people that lived in London at that time. ‘History off The Page’ran the workshop at our school and the children were encouraged to dress up to help them get into the spirit of the day!
Year 4 Trip to Verulamium Museum
Year 4 went on a wonderful trip to Verulamium Museum in St Albans. We took part in a wonderful market workshop, explored the museum, visited the local park and walked to the other ruins that had been excavated.

Buddy Systems
Year 6 and Reception Buddies
We have initiated a buddy system between Year 6 and Reception. The purpose of this is to build relationships between the oldest and youngest pupils in the school and encourage links within the school community. The response has been extremely positive and there are smiles all round.
Year 5 and Year 1 Buddies
In addition to our Year 6 Buddies, we now have Year 5 Reading Buddies. Our Year 5 children join their Year 1 Buddy every Thursday to share a book. This is a new initiative which supports our commitment to develop a love of reading at Swallow Dell. The weekly meets provide support and motivation for our younger children and an opportunity for our older students to develop their leadership skills.
