At Swallow Dell we understand that we have an incredibly important role to play as educators – providing for our children’s personal development. Personal development involves the entire world of a child and permeates through all that we do and all elements of our curriculum. It extends well beyond the classroom and academic learning. With the aim that children have a high quality provision which encourages, develops, enables and supports all:

To be responsible, respectful and active citizens
To be physically and mentally healthy and have strategies to manage their health and wellbeing
To understand British values and how to contribute to life in British society
To understand personal traits and character and how these can positively influence motivation and conduct

Wider opportunities, developing talents and interests

There are a wide range of opportunities that exist for all of our children to promote and develop their talents and interests alongside spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

PSHE, RSHE and citizenship

Physical, social, health and economic education (PSHE) and health, relationships and sex education (RSHE) are a significant part of our classroom based personal development. This includes a vast range of opportunities for children to understand inclusion, equality and equity.

Our PSHE curriculum also encompasses citizenship opportunities for all children..

British values and school values

Deeply understanding British values alongside our own school values is a key element of character development at Swallow Dell. These values crossover to so many areas of our programme for personal development.
