PE, sport and physical activity are crucial for our pupils’ physical development, their well-being and in helping them to build their resilience. We offer a high quality PE curriculum and extra-curricular activities intended to engage all pupils to enjoy and excel at competitive sport and physically demanding activities. Through our PE provision, we aim that every child will develop a lifelong participation in physical activity and healthy living. PE promotes opportunities for children to cooperate, take leadership roles, take risks and challenge themselves. Children develop their sense of honest competition and good sportsmanship whilst experiencing both success and defeat. There are two dedicated hours of PE each week which are taught by sports coaches. At Swallow Dell we focus on 1 area of PE for a 3 week block enabling children to become fully immersed in the particular sport etc. These sessions develop their skills, improve their fitness and provide opportunities for them to enjoy sport in a social context. Activities are planned to enable all children to participate in ways appropriate to their abilities. There are opportunities for children to work individually, collaboratively and competitively.
In addition EYFS children have the opportunity to play and explore outdoor equipment during the day in their dedicated covered area and all children have opportunities to use a wide range of outdoor play equipment during play times.
We organise a wide range of clubs to extend the PE provision at the school which are extremely popular. These include girls and boys football, gymnastics, multi- sports, multi-skills & summer sports. Click here to see the clubs currently available to pupils.
Through our School Sports Partnership children are given the opportunity to represent the school in different sports these have included athletics, kwik-cricket & speed stacking.
We host competitive football matches with other local schools.
